Handle belonging to a wide, shallow vessel, probably a lekanis or a similar vessel. It was found in excavations on the Acropolis in December of 1973. The handle is made from a metal sheet with three circular openings. Each of the openings is connected with a slot. On the upper surface the handle is decorated with incised tongue motif and bears the inscription: ΤΑΘΕΝΑΙΑΙ, meaning that the object it was attached to had been dedicated to goddess Athena.

During the excavations on the Acropolis Rock, a plethora of similar perforated handles have been discovered. They all have simple incised, dotted or more seldom relief decoration of geometric or floral motifs. These handles are considered creations of Attic workshops made in the end of the 6th and the beginning of the 5th cent. BC.
